When should I see a Dietitian?

There are a wide range of triggers that may lead to a person benefiting from the support of a dietitian. Some typical reasons why someone might be referred, or might independently choose, to see a dietitian include:

  • A newly diagnosed chronic disease

  • Signs that a chronic illness is not being managed

  • Assistance with a therapeutic or specialised diet

  • Significant weight change

  • Recent poor food intake, poor appetite, or difficulty preparing or eating food

  • Changes in medication

  • Periodic reviews of medical nutrition therapy.

Nutrition Consulations

Initial consultation (60 minutes) | $120.00

An individual consultation includes a thorough assessment of your overall health, including nutrition and medical history, review of relevant blood results and medications, and an analysis of your current dietary and lifestyle patterns.

Consultations include the development of customised health and nutrition recommendations to empower you to set personal health goals and formulate realistic strategies to achieve them.

Review consultation (40 minutes) | $80.00

Review sessions are recommended to monitor your progress, provide answers to your questions, and provide you with motivation and support to achieve your goals.

The frequency and number of sessions required to achieve your health and wellbeing goals will be determined by individual needs. As a rough guide, review appointments will be completed weekly or fortnightly. I will work with you to determine your perfect session-frequency and adjust this, as required.

Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time is set aside for your exclusive use. Last minute cancellation of an arranged appointment is unfair on my time and limits my availability to work with other clients.

I require 24 hours notice of a cancellation or 50% of the full fee is payable for the missed session. This fee will only be waived in exceptional circumstances.

Please note that the cancellation fee is not claimable through your private health insurance or Medicare.

Private Health Insurance

Most private health funds provide rebates for consultation with a Dietitian. The rebate amount depends on your level of cover. Contact your health insurance provider to check your entitlements.

You may be eligible to claim a rebate from Medicare if you have been referred to a Dietitian by your GP on a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) or Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan.

CDM/EPC plans are designed to help patients access a range of health services - including dietetics - to assist with the management of chronic (ongoing) health conditions. Examples of chronic conditions eligible for a CDM plan include:

  • Diabetes

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

  • High cholesterol

  • Irriable Bowl Syndrome (IBS)

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

  • Arthritis

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) provides a rebate of $54.60 per consultation, for up to 5 sessions per calendar year. Your doctor must develop the plan prior to your appointment for you to be eligible for this rebate.

Please have a copy of your plan available during your appointment and note that you have been referred by your GP on a CDM/EPC when making a booking.
